May 25, 2010, Alexandria, Va. – The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) is reporting recently simulated NCUA email boxes. The fraudulent emails solicit credit union member participation in an Online Survey or Member Survey, and promise compensation of $40 as an inducement to respond to the email.
The emails are fraudulent, and may be an attempt to obtain confidential member information. NCUA does not solicit such information from credit union members. This is a phishing activity with no NCUA activity or approval. If you have received these emails please do not respond.
Email Scam As a reminder....K-State Credit Union will never solicit personal information over the phone or via e-mail. As your financial institution we already have this information. If you currently hold a K-State Credit Union VISA Debit or Credit card there may be a chance you would be called to verify charges that are suspected fraudulent. Once again, you will not be asked to give out information such as your account number or social security number in its entirety. We suggest that you call K-State Credit Union at 785-776-3003 to inquire about the validity of any call or email that you may feel suspicious.

NEW WEB SITE CREATED FOR CREDIT CARD CONSUMERS
The Federal Reserve Board has created a Web site for consumers to better understand the new credit card protections that took place on February 22, 2010. The protections require credit card issuers to provide greater transparency in the disclosure and terms and conditions of credit card accounts, as well as banning practices that can be harmful to consumers.
The Web site will help consumers learn more about the terms and fees of credit card offers and what will be changing on their monthly statements. Consumers will also find credit card options, interest rates, fees, a glossary of common credit terms for a helpful reference and even a list of protection laws for those interested in learning more about their rights.
The Web site will be updated regularly and is required to be on all solicitations consumers receive.
Commercial Accounts and the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA)
The UIGEA was signed into law in 2006 and its intents are to restrict unlawful wagering via internet gambling sites through blocking them from making payments to finance their wagers.
Due to this law and meeting the compliance deadline of December 1, 2009, the K-State Credit Union is informing its membership that transactions that are restricted under the UIGEA are prohibited and should not be processed through theses commercial accounts.
